The New York Times is launching a smartphone application for readers seeking coverage of the 2012 presidential campaign. The Election 2012 app is a free download, but is designed to divert readers to premium, fee-based content. Consumers who are not already print subscribers can gain full access to the content by paying $14.99 a month to subscribe to the Times website plus smartphone apps, or opt for All Digital Access -- which includes tablet apps -- for $34.99 a month.
