The U.S. must offer incentives to clean-technology manufacturers and adopt a binding renewable-portfolio standard if it does not want to lag further in the global renewable-energy race, according to Sunil Sharan, founder of Sierra Consulting. "[M]ost American companies prefer going overseas when it comes to manufacturing renewable energy technologies, exporting desperately-needed jobs and intellectual property," Sharan writes. "The United States cannot reap the full benefits from its own innovation unless companies are incentivized to manufacture this technology locally."
