The American Television Alliance is questioning why pay-TV providers are paying higher retransmission consent rates to local TV stations when NBC is offering free online streaming of the Super Bowl. The group adds that several hundred local stations could go dark on cable systems starting Jan. 1 if disputes over retrans fees aren't settled. "We see an irony in threatening blackouts while giving away the biggest event of the year, the Super Bowl," the group said.
