The U.S. government's first offshore oil and natural gas lease sale since last year's Deepwater Horizon oil spill amassed a total of $712 million in bids, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said. ConocoPhillips was the highest bidder in the auction, offering $103.2 million for the Keathley Canyon Block 95 in the Gulf of Mexico. "These results demonstrate there is a great interest in continuing to develop oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico," Salazar said.
