Construction-materials company Lafarge North America will pay $740,000 and begin a program to ensure nearly 200 plants comply with the Clean Water Act as it works to settle claims of storm-water discharge violations, the EPA said. The company's alleged violations include unpermitted storm-water discharges and noncompliance with storm-water permits at 21 plants in five states. Storm runoff that passes over concrete-producing plants can be polluted by pesticides, solvents, petroleum products and other chemicals.
