Indoor tanning raises the risk of basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer, according to a Yale School of Public Health study. "Indoor tanning was strikingly common in our study of young skin cancer patients, especially in the women, which may partially explain why 70% of early-onset BCCs are in females," senior author Susan Mayne said.
