Obese youths ages 6 to 16 with decreased vitamin D levels had increased insulin resistance and could face a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to a study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Researchers noted that obese children were more than three times more likely to have low levels of vitamin D compared with their normal-weight peers.
