CSX's customers from various markets will help bolster the Class I's infrastructure network with a $1.4 billion investment, which is expected to generate around 1,700 jobs. Current facilities will be expanded and new ones constructed on CSX's rail network and its connecting short lines. "For many customers, railroad fuel efficiency is an important factor when it comes to choosing transportation, and CSX trains are capable of moving a ton of freight nearly 500 miles on a gallon of fuel. That means significantly lower carbon emissions than trucks," said Clark Robertson, CSX assistant vice president-regional development.
