Emergency medical technicians using portable ECG correctly diagnosed ST-elevation myocardial infarction and called ahead to alert hospital cath labs in 85% of almost 4,000 cases, according to data from the Carolinas Medical Center. The report in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association found just 6% of catheter lab activations were canceled after hospital staff reinterpreted the ECG results.
