Japan seeks to impose a 40-year limit on the lives of reactors, permitting extensions only under tough conditions, said Goshi Hosono, Japan's environment and nuclear crisis minister. The proposal is part of an amendment to Japan's nuclear plant operations law that was introduced following the Fukushima Daiichi incident. "It will be quite hard to operate nuclear reactors beyond 40 years and we will implement stringent measures on nuclear reactor operations, as safety is the first priority," Hosono said.
