A study of 757 hospitals found 39% had an early elective newborn delivery rate of 5% or less, compared with 30% last year, the Leapfrog Group reported. The study found that 65% of hospitals improved their rates. Reducing unnecessary elective deliveries to 1.7% would reduce complications and save $1 billion a year in health care costs, Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder said.
