North Dakota's ethanol production tops 350 million gallons per year, up from 35 million gallons in 2005, according to Deana Wiese, executive director of the North Dakota Ethanol Council. About 94% of the ethanol and 90% of the distillers grains produced in North Dakota are shipped to markets out of the state. "Some 6% [of the locally produced ethanol] is kept in the state, but we'd like to grow that number to 10%," Wiese said.
