The PET imaging agent C-11 4DST performed better than the standard PET agent FDG in detecting proliferation of cancer cells in patients with nonsmall-cell lung cancer, according to a Japanese study presented at a radiology meeting. PET/CT imaging with C-11 4DST can also allow for a noninvasive view of DNA synthesis in the disease, the researchers said. The C-11 4DST tracer can help differentiate between benign and malignant tissues, determine tumor activity, assess response to treatment and improve prediction of patient prognosis, a researcher said.
