A multinational team of researchers has developed bioengineered skin using spider silk that has the potential to stop a speeding bullet. The material, created by fusing lab-grown spider silk with the skin cells of humans, took five weeks to mature before researchers started shooting at it, and it could one day be used in transplants. The skin can't stop a bullet traveling at full speed yet but can deflect bullets fired at half speed.
