Positive results on bone SPECT/CT scans can indicate whether a patient with vertebral fractures is responding to percutaneous vertebroplasty, according to a study published in The Spine Journal. Researchers were able to predict clinical improvement in 91% of patients with positive scan results. The method can also help detect alternative sources of pain, such as additional fractures and degenerative disease, according to the study.
