Closing Entergy's Indian Point nuclear plant in New York would mean much higher rates for consumers, as the infrastructure upgrades required to replace its capacity would cost billions of dollars, writes Nuclear Energy Institute President and CEO Marvin Fertel. "Needlessly closing an efficient power station would be foolhardy, to say the least -- especially one that's vital to America's financial capital, employs more than 1,300 people and generates more than $800 million for New York's economy," he writes.
