National Grid has submitted a revised proposal for a smart-grid pilot project with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities that the utility says will cost as much as 20% less than a previous plan developed in 2009 and takes into consideration specific customer issues. If approved, the pilot -- which seeks to cut energy costs by a minimum of 5% for 15,000 participating customers -- would begin in June and run for 18 months at a total cost of $44 million.
