A new research project by the National Academy of Education and George Washington University is aiming to evaluate various methods being used to assess teacher-education programs. The project is, in part, a response to concerns about the methodology being used by the National Council on Teacher Quality and U.S. News & World Report, which are reviewing the country's programs. However, project officials say their initiative goes beyond the scope of the NCTQ study, and will include determining what information might be useful to prospective students, the public, or the schools as they work to improve teacher-training curricula.
