Liability claims in the public-transit sector have risen by a yearly average of 2% in severity and 1% in frequency since 2006, according to Aon Risk Solutions' 2011 Public Transit Liability Benchmark Analysis. The sector's average loss rate, meanwhile, has risen by 3% a year, the analysis found. Aging fleets and inflation in medical costs are contributing to the increases, which risk managers should address because the use of public transit is expected to rise further in the U.S., writes Terry Pfeifer of Aon Global Risk Consulting.
