Lubrication technicians are receiving better training and oil laboratories are getting more sophisticated in the methods they use for oil analysis, say experts. "The training and development of lubrication skills is the hottest thing out there right now, and I believe it will be with us for a long time in the future," says Bill Lyons, maintenance optimization manager at Holcim, a cement and mineral-component manufacturer. “Regardless of the lubricant product used, approximately 80% of the potential for cost reduction and plant performance improvement is in reliability-centered lubrication practices," said Mike Johnson, principal consultant for Advanced Machine Reliability Resources.
