The Coalition for Healthcare Communication and 14 trade associations called on Congress last week to back off of consumer privacy legislation and allow voluntary, industry-led consumer privacy programs to gain traction. In a letter sent to members of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce and Judiciary Committees, the associations state that they are concerned new legislation “could undermine future efforts for successful voluntary practices.” Coalition Executive Director John Kamp said that “Congress should acknowledge that industry self-regulation is working and give the process time to take root.” Read more.
