New York's top broadcast stations, in two separate lawsuits, are trying to block a startup funded by Barry Diller from sharing their content without permission to paying customers over the Web. The federal lawsuits -- one from owners of the Fox, CW, Univision and PBS stations; the other from ABC, CBS and NBC -- call for an injunction against Aereo's March 14 launch in New York, its sole market. The NAB backs the litigation, saying in a statement, "Copyright and TV signal protections promote a robust local broadcasting system that serves tens of millions of Americans every day with high quality news, entertainment, sports and emergency weather information. A plaintiffs' win in this case will ensure the continued availability of this programming to the viewing public."
