A radiation device recently approved for use in an office setting offers a non-invasive alternative for select patients with skin cancer. Patients 60 and older with mild cases of basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma may qualify for treatment with the SRT-100 device instead of surgery, says dermatologist Nicole Hartsough. Patients must undergo treatment several times a week for four to five weeks, and younger patients or those with extensive, large or severe carcinoma are better treated with surgery, she said.
