A precast seismic structural system is one of the inexpensive building design methods for quake-resistant structures, and it was recently used for a hospital in Christchurch, New Zealand, according to Structex Director Gary Haverland. The precast concrete walls and post-tensioned frames installed in the city's Southern Cross Hospital in 2010 helped the building sustain only "minor" damages during the earthquake in February of last year, Haverland said.
