Researchers who analyzed four studies involving 900 patients with uncomplicated appendicitis found that 63% of those who received antibiotics did not require any further treatment after one year, and they also experienced 31% fewer complications than those who underwent appendectomy. Among 400 patients treated with antibiotics, symptoms recurred in only 68. The study appeared online in BMJ.
