The defense industry is calling for Congress to revisit a recent change in the law that splits weapons maintenance work 50-50 between public and private depots. Recently Congress widened the definition of weapons maintenance work that falls under the split, raising concerns among contractors that they will lose more work to public depots. Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Marion Blakey said the code change "could mean that a massive amount of workload will be shifted from the private sector to the public sector at the same time the Department is canceling or delaying modernization programs."
