An analysis in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests consuming fewer calorie-dense foods may help reduce an individual's overall calorie intake and improve satiety levels. "The conclusions reached in our review strengthen the recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines to consume such foods as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean animal protein sources, which are generally lower in energy density, while lowering consumption of total fat, saturated fat, and added sugars, which increase the energy density of foods," said lead researcher Rafael Perez-Escamilla.
