A small number of parents in New York are following protests in Texas and Seattle, by choosing to keep their students home during standardized testing taking place this week. The trend comes as parents and others have criticized the exams, saying they are ineffective measures of student learning and take away from actual education. Last year in New York City, 37 students opted out of the math test, and 30 did not take the language arts exam.
