The average U.S. employee will be $2,100 short each month in retirement, much of it due to the 2008 market collapse and investors' resulting caution about investing in equities, according to a new study from Fidelity Investments. Younger workers face a smaller shortfall, about $1,700 a month for those born between 1965 and 1991, the study said.
