The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development endorsed a plan that would allocate $26.3 billion to the Department of Energy for fiscal year 2013, down $365 million from fiscal 2012 and about 4% below President Barack Obama's request of $27.2 billion. The bill would cut the budget of the department's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to $1.5 billion, down about 17% from fiscal 2012. Obama proposed to increase the office's budget by almost 30% to $2.3 billion for fiscal 2013.
