Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard wants to be the business community's do-gooder in chief. He sees Patagonia less as a business venture than as a soapbox that he can use to show other companies -- in sectors ranging from crampon manufacturing to commercial fishing -- how to make a profit without harming the planet. "I never even wanted to be in business," Chouinard said. "But I hang onto Patagonia because it's my resource to do something good. It's a way to demonstrate that corporations can lead examined lives."
