California led the country in clean-technology investments with $3.5 billion in 2011, up 24% from 2010, according to the 2012 California Green Innovation Index issued by nonprofit Next 10. California also set the pace in clean-tech patent registrations, with 910 filed between 2008 and 2010, the index showed. "Venture capital investment and patent filings are two economic indicators that signal positive future growth in terms of jobs and businesses," said Next 10 founder F. Noel Perry.
