High-school students in Virginia are required to take at least one course online to graduate, under legislation signed into law Thursday by Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, writes reporter Emma Hall in this blog. The law will not apply to current high-school students, but it will take effect for students who enroll in the ninth grade in the 2013-14 school year, she writes. Officials said the mandate is intended to help prepare students for the workplace.
