Spartanburg, S.C., 9-1-1 dispatcher Chrissy Davis, recently named her county's Telecommunicator of the Year, says she comes to work each day knowing someone's life may be on the line. Davis, who has handled calls related to suicide, medical emergencies, fires and crimes, says the work is stressful but rewarding. "[W]hen someone performs CPR on a child and that child's parents call you a couple of days later and say, 'I don't know who I was on the phone with, but thank you so much,' that is worth every bad call you could take," Davis said.
