Davidson County Community College is trying to meet the growing demand for medical interpreters by starting a new degree program, the first of its kind in North Carolina. The program will accept students who are fluent in both English and Spanish, and the main focus of the degree will be teaching the more complex aspects of medicine and treatment. Medical interpreters must serve as the link between doctors and patients, meaning they must have a firm grasp of medical issues.
