A Tennessee school district in August will launch a universal free breakfast program for students. Under the program, students will be offered a hot or cold item that includes whole grains, such as pancakes or cereal, plus milk or juice and fruit. Officials say they are hopeful the program will improve students' attendance and academic achievement. A study by the School Nutrition Association showed that math and reading scores increased in another Tennessee school district after it adopted a universal breakfast program.
