Lawmakers blasted the ad industry's resistance to browsers that use "Do Not Track" settings by default, accusing companies of putting "profits over privacy." Reps. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Joe Barton, R-Texas, said the episode highlighted the need for legislation to address online privacy. "If consumers want to be tracked online, they should have to opt-in to be tracked, instead of the other way around," the pair said.
