Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack defended the ethanol industry and the Renewable Fuel Standard during a town hall meeting at the World Dairy Expo in Wisconsin earlier this week. Increased ethanol production and the RFS have been good for farmers, the economy, national security and the environment, Vilsack said. Passage of a new food, farm and jobs bill would do more to mitigate the impact of drought-induced high corn prices than an RFS waiver, he added.
