As many as 16,000 soldiers and 5,000 officers will have to be involuntarily separated from service as the Army recalibrates its ranks, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno says. The separations will come as the force looks to decrease troop numbers by 80,000, a number that will increase further if sequestration cuts come into force.
