Several New York hoteliers have reported occupancy at near capacity in the wake of Hurricane Sandy as they sought to accommodate homeowners, travelers and workers displaced by the storm. STR reports occupancy levels of 80.6% on Monday, 83.4% on Tuesday and 86.6% on Wednesday from a sample of 100 New York hotels. "Based on those preliminary data points, it seems that daily occupancies continue to be well above 70%, and average daily rates are about in line with where they were prior to the superstorm hitting," said Jan Freitag, a senior vice president at STR.
