A pair of stars circling each other inside planetary nebula Fleming 1 might be the cause of the nebula's jet structures, scientists say. Researchers, led by Henri Boffin, a Chile-based astronomer with the European Southern Observatory, believe the two stars were originally far from each other with the bigger star evolving from a red giant to an "asymptotic giant branch" star. The findings suggest that the stars started to stream out materials when the bigger star's gas flowed toward the smaller star.
