Women using tamoxifen to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer had better protection if they took the drug for 10 years instead of the standard five, Oxford University researchers reported in The Lancet. Breast cancer experts said the data, which showed a lower recurrence rate among women who took the drug longer, also may have implications for postmenopausal women who usually take other medications to prevent a recurrence.
