Jack Klugman used his "Quincy M.E." television show to highlight the plight of patients with rare diseases and testified before Congress in support of the Orphan Drug Act. "Mr. Klugman focused a spotlight on the need for incentives to encourage the development of medical therapies for small patient populations ... in partnership with patients and patient advocates who had been unable to gain national attention until he lent his support," the National Organization for Rare Disorders said in a statement. Klugman died Monday at the age of 90.
