A rise in recycling levels, the promotion of bioplastics and the increase in flexible packaging materials are among the key trends for plastic packaging in 2013. In recycling, "we're doing a good job, but not a great job. ... We have to communicate that it's something that is required and needed and work with people to make it happen," said Scott Steele, president of Plastic Technologies. For bioplastics, one-time-use packaging is a strong area, said Paul Theodore, an analyst with NanoMarkets. "More companies in the food industry are using this type of packaging, which is driving growth," Theodore said.
