Brazilian sugarcane research agency Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira has committed $38.5 million to build a demonstration-scale facility that would convert cane residues into cellulosic ethanol. The plant, which would have the capacity to make nearly 800,000 gallons of ethanol annually, will be built at an existing cane mill in 2013, said Oswaldo Godoy, the agency's projects manager.
