Just like Holiday Inn hotels emerged in the 1950s as the highway system expanded, hotels could evolve to meet the needs of high-speed rail systems in the U.S., this feature says. "In the top 25 markets, there's always going to be interest in hotels, and increased rail activities to bring people in your market are always positive," said David Roedel, a manager with the hotel investment and management firm Roedel Cos., citing development of a high-speed line in the Northeast Corridor. A high-speed system also is in the works to link San Francisco and Los Angeles.
