The Indiana State Board of Education on Wednesday eased requirements for individuals without education degrees who want to teach in K-12 classrooms. The new rules create an "adjunct teaching permit" and allow individuals to pursue a less-traditional track into the classroom by taking proficiency exams instead of college courses in some areas. The changes also transfer power to approve teacher-training programs from the state Education Department to the state Board of Education.
