The oil industry is being disingenuous when it calls for the repeal of the Renewable Fuel Standard because no other industry in the U.S. has benefited more from federal incentives than oil, writes Monte Shaw, executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. Petroleum-based fuels are the only liquid transportation fuels receiving tax subsidies, the oldest of which "dates back to 1913," Shaw notes. "Big Oil's actions do not reflect a commitment to free market principles. Rather, their actions reflect a reliance on a big business-big government partnership to limit consumers' fuel choices," Shaw asserts.
