Wireless carriers have great hopes for machine-to-machine networks, but for now they are keeping the technology simple, building an ecosystem that application developers, enterprises and consumers can easily deploy, they said at an industry event Tuesday. The industry has focused on connected cars, smart homes and the use of M2M technology in such global industries as transportation and manufacturing, executives said as they pointed to predictions that connected devices could generate $51 billion by 2020.
