Teachers in Pennsylvania during the 2013-14 school year will be evaluated based on classroom observations and "multiple measures of student achievement," according to a new state law. Now, Pittsburgh is expected to be the first district to implement a new method for evaluating teachers that complies with the law. Under the district's proposal, tentatively set for a school board vote on Jan. 23, half of teachers' evaluations will be based on building-level results, teacher-specific data and "elective data," which will typically include student surveys about their teachers' performance.
